What is HighScope?

HighScope is an educational method that emphasizes active learning through hands-on experiences for children. It is based on the idea that children learn best by doing, rather than passively receiving information. The approach is centered around a daily routine, which includes activities such as small-group instruction, independent work, and large-group discussion. This allows children to learn at their own pace and in their own way. HighScope also emphasizes assessment, using observation and documentation to track children's progress and inform instruction.

Research has shown that the HighScope approach can be effective in promoting children's cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development. Studies have shown that children who participate in HighScope programs have higher achievement scores, better social-emotional skills, and a greater ability to plan and problem-solve than children in other educational settings. Additionally, HighScope has been found to be effective for children from diverse backgrounds, including low-income families and children with special needs. Overall, it is a method that focuses on child-centered learning, active engagement, and the development of key skills that can prepare children for success in the future which is why Kids Excel utilizes this model.
